Red Hat’s Design Program Office turns 2
January 11, 2024 is the two-year anniversary of the Red Hat Design Program Office (DPO), which is marked by the initiation of a cross-company DesignOps group that includes design leads from distributed design teams across Engineering, Digital, Brand, and Support organizations.
A key focus of the DPO is fostering a strong Design culture at Red Hat. In a distributed design community like ours, it’s crucial to have a sense of connection as a united practice area. The DPO is defining and promoting a shared set of Red Hat design principles. Our design principles encourage collaboration, mutual respect, and continuous learning among our design teams. It also helps us attract and retain top design talent, as people are more likely to join and stay in an organization where they feel valued and connected.
This is especially important in a large enterprise company the size of Red Hat, where roles in Design number in the hundreds — while in contrast roles in Engineering, Sales, and Product each number in the thousands.
Having a shared voice ensures that our design teams speak the same language about Design’s role and impact at Red Hat. The DPO’s focus on design systems alignment, design tooling standards, and journey mapping frameworks also ensures that our multiple design teams’ operations are consistent and aligned with our overall Red Hat vision and strategy. This, in turn, helps us deliver a unified and high-quality experience to our customers and end users.
We’ve also introduced a new interview series called Designer stories. Visit design.redhat.com/designer-stories to read about why designers love doing design and why they love working at Red Hat.
